Like Mother, Like Daughter – We share a love of creating beauty in peoples’ lives
As a child I use to go to my friends’ homes and rearrange the furniture in their bedrooms, hang things on the walls and happily create what I thought was a beautiful space. My creative Mom would volunteer her time and efforts freely to friends and family to organize, paint, sew and move heavy things for the pure joy that she got as a result of making a space inviting and fabulous. If this was a “sickness” we were happy to have it. Because of this unique interest in creating beautiful spaces we eventually opened Red Door Interiors and ultimately invented RD Shady.
Kathy has always had a passion for home décor and incredible skills at sewing. She had a very successful wallpapering business for over 15 years but eventually retired not enjoying how labor intensive the trade was. She was never one to sit around for long and soon, she itched to be busy and to pursue her love of transforming old furniture in to new treasures. Eventually, she and her daughter opened a home décor gift shop named Red Door Interiors, where she tirelessly worked doing what she loved. Customers were “wowed” for 9 years witnessing Kathy’s amazing creations that were brought into the shop week after week.
Although, she no longer does the grueling work of refinishing furniture, she still has an innate skill to create beautiful spaces for people. She continues to offer her quality sewing skills for home décor items like pillows, table runners, throws, cushions and bedding. In addition, she works with her daughter to decoratively transform client’s homes and real estate agent’s listings into amazing homes that people love to be in. Her attention to detail is unsurpassed and an integral part of what makes Red Door Interiors so successful.
Lara Lathrop Anderson is the owner of Red Door Interiors and she has been working in interior design for nearly 20 years as a designer and retailer. She started out in Seattle as an assistant for the award winning interior designer, Rocky Rochon, where she designed and managed high end residential and commercial projects. Later, in Portland, OR she primarily focused on commercial design at a contract furniture retailer named Innerspace Office Solutions. Lara moved back to her hometown of Olympia in 2004 and opened up Red Door Home Décor with her mother in 2006. For 9 years, she and her mother, refurbished furniture and provided design services throughout the community until the shop sold in 2015.
Lara is happy to be focusing solely on her passion for interior design and with the help of her mother, she has devised two main services called Red Door’s One Day Room Refresh and Red Door Real Estate Room Refresh.
We are really good at turning your ordinary space into a place of beauty and rest.
