Very Peri – 2022 Pantone Color of the Year
Very Peri it is!
Do you love color as much as I do?
I love everything rainbow! In fact, one of my favorite books is Pantone: The Twentieth Century in Color.
Just look around. Color is all around us. Truly, the perfect place to experience the full rainbow spectrum of color is in nature - gorgeous blue skies (often steel grey here in the PNW), mustard gold autumn leaves, pale pink cherry blossoms, and crisp white snow. It’s incredible how we can look to nature and see a variety of colors all melding and working together. In nature, there’s no such thing as clashing.
As an interior designer, color is what inspires me. And the Pantone Color of the Year, keeps my mind bubbling with new ideas and expressive ways to bless my clients with gorgeous, uplifting, artistic color.
The 2022 Pantone Color of the Year is especially unique, because for the first time in the history of the Pantone Color of the Year program, Pantone has created a new color specifically created for the Color of the Year.
Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri, “reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer…As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”, explained Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.
Pantone also explained they created Very Peri because the red/blue transitional qualities express the transformative times we are going through. “Digital design helps us to stretch the limits of reality, opening the door to a dynamic virtual world where we can explore and create new color possibilities. With trends in gaming, the expanding popularity of the metaverse and rising artistic community in the digital space PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri illustrates the fusion of modern life and how color trends in the digital world are being manifested in the physical world and vice versa.”
The past two years have been a huge time of transformation for all of us and it’s not surprising that these significant times have influenced color as well.
Adding a pop of color in your home is always a fun way to acknowledge trends and stay current. The safest way to experiment with new colors is to incorporate them into soft goods like pillows, throws, and area rugs. But hold off on making too bold of a statement with colors like Very Peri to keep your options open.
